Judges for 2013

Last year I commented that if there is a panel, I'd like to see more than one artist on it (last year's only had one). This year there are two artists on the panel. :)

Only Hugh Pearman and Desmond Shawe-Taylor remain from the 2012 Judging Panel.

The 2013 judging panel is:

Women in the Arts
Desmond Shawe-Taylor CVOSurveyor of the Queen’s Pictures; and
Hugh Pearmancritic & writer, The Sunday Times.

How does the judging and selection process work?

this competition aims to celebrate and reward excellence and originality in the genre of watercolour painting. The judges will therefore be looking for work that makes the most imaginative or otherwise impressive use of a water based medium in this respect.
The panel of judges will initially review all entries from the digital submission process.

Artwork only needs to be sent to London (by 3 July) if it makes it through the initial screening of online digital entries.

250 artists are then invited to submit actual works to London and regional collection points.  Thus if if one of your artworks make it through the initial screening it has a 40% chance of being selected for exhibition
  • Stage 1 - Initial Screening (Online ONLY)
    • All artists enter their work online at the initial screening stage.
    • The judges review all the watercolour paintings and then select 250 works to go forward to Stage 2 - the final judging.
  • Stage 2 - Final Judging (Actual Painting): If invited (BY 24 June) artists must
    • EITHER deliver artwork for final judging to the Federation of British Artists (FBA), 17 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5BD,  on Wednesday 3 July 2013. between 10 - 5pm. This is a link to a summary of UK art couriers if the regional collection centre is not convenient for you
    • OR submit work via the approved couriers and Regional collection centres (by earlier deadlines).
    • works not accepted for exhibition will be available for collection from the FBA (rear of the Mall Galleries) on 10 July 2013, from 10 – 5pm.
